It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 21-31 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Food, Drugs, and |
2 | Cosmetics Act" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 21-31-3.1. Rhode Island Food Safety Act. |
4 | (a) This act shall be known and may be cited as the "Rhode Island Food Safety Act." |
5 | (b) Commencing on January 1, 2027, a person or entity shall not manufacture, sell, deliver, |
6 | distribute, hold or offer for sale, in commerce, a food product for human consumption that contains |
7 | any of the following substances: |
8 | (1) Brominated vegetable oil (CAS no. 8016-94-2); |
9 | (2) Potassium bromate (CAS no. 7758-01-2); |
10 | (3) Propylparaben (CAS no. 94-13-3); |
11 | (4) Red dye 3 (CAS no. 16423-68-0). |
12 | (c) Violations of this section are subject to the penalties set forth in ยง 21-31-5(a). |
13 | (d) This section does not impair or impede any other rights, causes of action, claims, or |
14 | defenses available under existing law. |
15 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
