CONGRATULATING AND HONORING MATT SHEAFF FOR HIS EIGHT YEARS OF | |
DEDICATED AND EXEMPLARY SERVICE IN STATE GOVERNMENT AND HIS | |
SERVICE IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT | |

1 | WHEREAS, Matt Sheaff, a graduate of St. Anselm College in Manchester, New |
2 | Hampshire, has an impressive career record of outstanding government service, particularly in the |
3 | fields of health care and early education. He has held senior communications positions in both |
4 | state and federal government and is widely admired for his tireless work ethic and expertise on |
5 | healthcare issues; and |
6 | WHEREAS, In Rhode Island, Mr. Sheaff served as the Communications Advisor to |
7 | Rhode Island Commerce, where he has been admired by his supervisors and colleagues for his |
8 | preparedness, his ability to juggle competing tasks, demands and responsibilities, and for being a |
9 | thoughtful team player at all times. He worked closely with the Rhode Island Department of |
10 | Education and other agencies to build workers skill levels and coordinating efforts to improve and |
11 | expand Rhode Island’s skill-training programs. He currently serves as a Senior Communications |
12 | Advisor in the Office of Governor Daniel J. McKee; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Mr. Sheaff has also served as the Director of Communications for the Office |
14 | of the Massachusetts State Treasurer, and as the Director of Communications for the Executive |
15 | Office of Housing and Economic Development under Governor Deval Patrick. At all times, he |
16 | served the public with abiding integrity and was a passionate advocate on behalf of social justice |
17 | and equality; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Prior to his service in Massachusetts, Mr. Sheaff served as a Senior |
19 | Communications Advisor at the Office of Head Start within the United States Department Health |

1 | and Human Services under President Barack Obama, where he specialized in issues relating to |
2 | early education for the agency; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. Sheaff has also served in high leadership positions with Maryland |
4 | Governor Martin O’Malley, the Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs, and the |
5 | Strong American Schools Campaign. Politically active for much of his life, he also worked in |
6 | New Hampshire on a Presidential Campaign; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Always active in his community, Mr. Sheaff has supported myriad |
8 | charitable and civic endeavors. He served as a mentor for Team for Kids, and currently serves as |
9 | a member of the Board of Directors for the Providence Children’s Museum; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Having battled major health issues in his life, Matt Sheaff has great |
11 | compassion for those facing their own healthcare challenges, and has always advocated on their |
12 | behalf, both in his professional and personal life. Today he regularly runs marathons raising |
13 | money for nonprofits; now, therefore be it |
14 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives hereby honors and congratulates Matt |
15 | Sheaf for his eight years of exemplary service in State government and the Federal government |
16 | and wishes him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further |
17 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby authorized and directed to |
18 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Matt Sheaff. |
