J O I N T   R E S O L U T I O N

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF $200,000 TO THE BRAIN INJURY ASSOCIATION OF

RHODE ISLAND (BIARI)

     WHEREAS, The Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island (BIARI) is a nonprofit

organization founded in 1983; and

     WHEREAS, More than 5.3 million individuals in the United States are living with a

permanent brain injury-related disability. Currently, 2.8 million Americans sustain a traumatic

brain injury each year; and

     WHEREAS, The BIARI mission is to help prevent brain injury and “offers programs and

services to increase public awareness of brain injury, provide information, resource materials and

education, enhance the effectiveness of agencies and service providers, and support survivors and

caregivers”; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not

otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2024-2025, the sum of two hundred thousand dollars

($200,000) to the Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island to assist efforts to prevent brain injury

and increase public awareness of brain injury; and the state controller is hereby authorized and

directed to draw his orders upon the general treasurer for the payment of said sum, upon receipt

of properly authenticated vouchers.

     This joint resolution would authorize the appropriation of the sum of $200,000 in the

Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island (BIARI).
