H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING AND THANKING SEAN CAREY FOR HIS HEROIC EFFORTS IN SAVING

A YOUNG WOMAN'S LIFE

     WHEREAS, Many people go through their lives without any personal contact with a

potential life and death situation, without that defining moment that turns an ordinary person into

a hero. Sean Carey faced such a challenge, and in that moment of crisis, without hesitation, he

did the extraordinary and saved the life and future dreams of a young mother of two infant

children; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Carey is the single father of Alexander and Megan, and resides in the

Town of Coventry. He is a successful real estate agent and coach and most fortunately, he has a

background in health and wellness. In addition, he is on the Board of Directors for "A Wish

Come True" and is the Co-Chair of the Coventry Fire Protection Citizens Task Force; and

     WHEREAS, On the morning of December 12th of 2023, the State and particularly the

Town of Coventry were experiencing an extremely windy storm during which a tree limb

violently broke off a large tree, striking a vehicle and impaling its driver through the leg; and

     WHEREAS, The two-inch wide branch had speared the woman's leg in the upper thigh

area and was causing severe bleeding when Mr. Carey arrived by chance on the scene. He

immediately placed a ratchet strap above the wound as a tourniquet, and temporarily staunched

the flow of blood until the Coventry Fire Department arrived; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Carey's heroic and clear-headed actions, during the direst of

circumstances, is an inspiration to all and deserving of recognition and gratitude; now, therefore

be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

recognizes and thanks Sean Carey for his heroic and clear-headed actions, and wishes him every

future happiness, much success, and good health; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Sean Carey.
