EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ELIZABETH POITRAS | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of |
2 | Elizabeth Poitras of Woonsocket. She was the beloved wife of Larry Poitras for 54 years; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Originally from Blackstone, Elizabeth Poitras was the daughter of Arthur |
4 | and Marguerite LaPointe. She graduated from St. Mary’s Central Catholic High School in |
5 | Milford and met the love of her life, Larry Poitras, as a teenager while they were working |
6 | together at the Coby Glass Christmas Ball Factory; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Poitras attended Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing |
8 | for a period, but left school to be with her husband when he was drafted into the United States |
9 | Army. They married in 1969 and she lived near Fort Dix Army Base for a short period and later |
10 | for a year in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, to be with her husband, before they returned home and |
11 | settled in Woonsocket; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Poitras was a hard-working professional who strove daily to |
13 | support her family. For thirty years she was a beloved librarian for the Greater Woonsocket |
14 | Catholic Regional Schools, and took immense joy in sharing her love of reading and literature |
15 | with the students at St. Joseph’s, Our Lady of Victories, Monsignor Gadoury and the Good |
16 | Shepherd School. She made a positive difference in the lives of countless young students; and |
17 | WHEREAS, In addition to her husband, Larry, Elizabeth is survived by her daughter |
18 | Jennifer McDonald and her husband, Abre, and daughter Aimee Bernier. She also leaves behind |
19 | her grandchildren Ethan, Ava, and Arlen, and her sisters Madeleine Plasse and her husband, |
20 | James, and Renee Allard and her husband, Albert. In addition, she leaves behind her numerous |

1 | extended family members and many friends; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Poitras was a shining light and a beacon of love and joy in the |
3 | lives of her family and many friends and colleagues. She will live on forever in the memories and |
4 | hearts of all who knew and loved her; now, therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
6 | expresses its condolences on the passing of Elizabeth Poitras; and be it further |
7 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
8 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Larry Poitras and Family. |
