RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT -- OFFICE OF HEALTH AND

HUMAN SERVICES

     Introduced By: Representatives Spears, Speakman, Carson, Donovan, Kislak, Tanzi,
Fogarty, and Casey

     Date Introduced: January 11, 2024

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 42-7.2 of the General Laws entitled "Office of Health and Human

Services" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     42-7.2-21. Department of hospitals realignment.

     (a) The secretary of the executive office of health and human services shall have the

authority to transfer personnel under the secretary's purview into the EOHHS to coordinate the

efforts of developing a state hospital realignment plan no later than April 1, 2024.

     (b) The secretary of the executive office of health and human services shall present to the

general assembly a plan for the realignment of state hospitals into a department of hospitals no later

than July 1, 2024.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would require the secretary of the executive office of health and human services

to present to the general assembly a plan for the realignment of state hospitals into a department of

hospitals no later than July 1, 2024.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
