RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING DEPUTY SPEAKER RAYMOND A. HULL ON

THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS SERVICE AS CHAIRMAN OF THE DR. MARTIN

LUTHER KING JR. STATE HOLIDAY COMMISSION

     WHEREAS, Our friend and colleague, Deputy Speaker Ray Hull, has spent the past

thirteen years as a member of the Rhode Island General Assembly, assiduously and genially

serving the people of North Providence, Providence, and our State; and

     WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Representative Hull has achieved myriad legislative

accomplishments, earned the respect and friendship of his peers, and has bettered the lives of

countless Rhode Islanders through his ability to unite people in a positive consensus; and

     WHEREAS, One of Representative Hull’s long-standing commitments has been serving

as Chair of the Martin Luther King Jr. State Holiday Commission, a position he has worthily held

for the past decade; and

     WHEREAS, This year marks Rhode Island’s 36th annual anniversary tribute of the Civil

Rights leader’s life and legacy, and as Chair of the MLK Commission, Representative Hull has

guided Rhode Island’s efforts in planning the annual tribute, which is held on January 15th,

coinciding with the federal holiday honoring his life; and

     WHEREAS, Annually, there are several major events conducted under the auspices of

the State’s MLK Holiday Commission, notably including a tribute to Dr. King, attended by local,

state and federal dignitaries at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Providence, at which Chairman

Hull serves as the Master of Ceremonies, as well as numerous awards ceremonies, events at local

universities, and an annual essay contest; and

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Raymond Hull epitomizes Dr, Kings philosophies of Dream,

Believe, Unite and Do, and he is eminently worthy of our recognition and gratitude; now,

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

recognizes and congratulates Deputy Speaker Raymond A. Hull on the 10th Anniversary of his

service as Chairman of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. State Holiday Commission; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Representative Raymond A. Hull.
