EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF PATRICK D. CALLAHAN

     WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Patrick

2

Callahan the devoted husband of Diane Callahan, and the beloved father of Tara Callahan, and

3

Shane Callahan and his wife, Kathryn; and

4

     WHEREAS, Born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Patrick Callahan was the son of the

5

late Yvonne Jacobs, and his adopted parents, the late Edward and Ann Callahan. He was the

6

brother of John Loehner, Trudy Coury and her husband, Mark, Chris and Ken Beckwith, his late

7

sister Sharon Vogeley and her husband, George, and the brother-in-law of Robert Tessier and his

8

wife, Margaret; and

9

     WHEREAS, Patrick was a graduate of Central High School and served our country with

10

honor in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. Upon returning from service, he was

11

employed as a copy clerk for the Providence Journal from 1974 through 1988; and

12

     WHEREAS, In January of 1988, Mr. Callahan began working as a computer operator

13

with the Rhode Island House of Representatives, and also served as a clerk until December of

14

2016, when he retired, due to illness; and

15

     WHEREAS, In addition to his wife and children, Patrick was the grandfather of Olivia

16

Bresnahan, whom he adored, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and

17

     WHEREAS, Patrick loved getting together with his family, fishing with his son,

18

traveling, gaming, and his pet cat, Blue. He enjoyed reminiscing and talking about politics with

19

his friends, many of whom he had known since boyhood; and

20

     WHEREAS, Patrick Callahan was blessed with a family he loved, loyal and close

friendships, a job at which he was valued, and he will be deeply missed; now, therefore be it

2

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

3

extends deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Patrick D. Callahan; and

4

be it further

5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

6

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Diane Callahan and Family.
