EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JEANNETTE V.

CHENEVERT

     WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Jeannette V.

2

Chenevert, the devoted wife of Omer Chenevert for seventy-one years, and the cherished mother

3

of one son, David Chenevert and his wife, Claire; and

4

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Chenevert was born during the Great Depression, and grew up in the

5

City of Woonsocket. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche Beauregard and the sister

6

of the late Florence Smith, Stella Rush, Rachel Cote, Normand Beauregard, Leo Beauregard, and

7

Muriel Santos; and

8

     WHEREAS, The family's first home was along the Blackstone River, and because money

9

was so scare during her early years, Mrs. Chenevert and her dad would go fishing for snapping

10

turtles to make turtle soup. During her youth, the family moved often, spending a number of years

11

in Central Falls and later, residing in Cumberland where she and her husband raised their son.

12

Once he was grown, and she and her husband had retired, they moved to West Palm Beach in

13

Florida, but returned to Rhode Island when they became grandparents; and

14

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Chenevert doted on her family, particularly her grandson, Michael

15

Chenevert and his wife, Kristin, her granddaughter, Laura Chenevert and her fiancé, Alan

16

Kennedy, and her two great-grandchildren Paxton and Kasen. She also loved her Beagle-mix

17

companion, Snoopy; and

18

     WHEREAS, During the 1940s, Mrs. Chenevert was employed as a Bookkeeper for the

19

family-run business, P and C Quality Screw Products for many years. In addition, she held

myriad jobs including waitressing at Howard Johnson's. In her spare time, she loved gardening,

2

and competing with her neighbors over who could grow the biggest tomato. She also enjoyed

3

playing tennis, reading, and was an avid sewer, who made all of her clothes by hand for many

4

years; and

5

     WHEREAS, Longevity ran in Mrs. Chenevert's family. Her father had lived to be 110

6

years old and Jeannette had celebrated her 100th birthday on August 6 of 2023. She had

7

maintained that "a single glass of Dewar's in the evening" was her secret to a long life. She will

8

always be remembered for her outgoing personality, her drive to "get things done", and her love

9

for her family, and she will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it

10

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

11

expresses deepest sympathies on the passing of Jeannette V. Chenevert; and be it further

12

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

13

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to David Chenevert, and Family.
