HONORING AND RECOGNIZING BARBARA J. DISANTO ON THE JOYOUS OCCASION | |
OF HER 90TH BIRTHDAY | |

1 | WHEREAS, Barbara J. DiSanto was born on December 27, 1933, in the City of |
2 | Providence, the oldest of four children born to Lucia and John Cicilline; and |
3 | WHEREAS, A brilliant student, Barbara graduated with high honors from Mt. Pleasant |
4 | High School in Providence, where she earned the Anthony Medal and won acceptance to |
5 | Pembroke College at Brown University; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Barbara chose to interrupt her educational aspirations in order to marry and |
7 | start a family. She later returned to academia, earning her Baccalaureate degree from the |
8 | University of Rhode Island; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Barbara has always been a devoted mother to her six children, Michael, |
10 | Kevin, David, Terry, Gerry Ann, and Peter. She has also been blessed with 11 grandchildren and |
11 | 5 great grandchildren who bring her much delight and frequent baby-sitting duties. Sadly, she |
12 | recently faced the loss of two of her children, Terry and Gerry Ann; and |
13 | WHEREAS, In addition to raising her family, Barbara was employed at the New England |
14 | Telephone Company in her younger years. She later began a long and efficacious career with the |
15 | State of Rhode Island, first as a Probation Counselor, and subsequently, as a Researcher for the |
16 | General Assembly’s Office of Legislative Council, where through talent and diligence, she rose |
17 | to the position of Chief of the Office of Legislative Research; and |
18 | WHEREAS, During her tenure in Legislative Research, Barbara was responsible for |
19 | assisting in the crafting of hundreds of pieces of legislation that would eventually become Rhode |

1 | Island law; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Barbara is the Family Matriarch and Family Historian, and is a voracious |
3 | reader and especially adept at solving the most challenging of crossword puzzles; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Barbara is a devout Catholic and a person who truly embraces the principles |
5 | of justice and equality. She genuinely cares about the well-being of others, and is a kind, patient, |
6 | understanding, and thoughtful woman who is eminently deserving of our recognition and praise; |
7 | now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
9 | recognizes and congratulates Barbara J. DiSanto on the joyous occasion of her 90th Birthday and |
10 | moreover offers our gratitude for her outstanding citizenship and service to the people of our |
11 | State; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Barbara J. DiSanto. |
