CONGRATULATING POLICE CHIEF BRIAN SULLIVAN ON HIS RETIREMENT AND | |
THANKING HIM FOR MORE THAN THIRTY-FOUR YEARS OF EXEMPLARY AND | |
DEVOTED SERVICE TO THE TOWN OF LINCOLN | |

1 | WHEREAS, Lincoln Police Chief Brian Sullivan graduated from Shippensburg |
2 | University with a Bachelor's degree in Administration of Justice. He later attained a K-6 Teaching |
3 | Certificate from Roger Williams University, and a Master of Science degree in Administration of |
4 | Justice from Salve Regina University; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Brian Sullivan began his distinguished public service and law enforcement |
6 | career when he was sworn in as a patrolman in 1988. Thanks to his leadership skills, tireless work |
7 | ethic and astute police work, he rapidly advanced through the ranks, rising to the position of |
8 | Juvenile Detective in 1992, Sergeant in 1998, Lieutenant in 2000, and Deputy Chief in 2002; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In 2008, Deputy Chief Sullivan was selected to be the next Police Chief of |
10 | Lincoln. In his more than fourteen years as Chief, he has earned the respect and admiration of his |
11 | colleagues, peers and the residents of the Town of Lincoln for his professionalism, compassion, |
12 | and abiding integrity; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Chief Sullivan has made it a point throughout his tenure to stay in touch |
14 | with the youth in the Lincoln community. When he first became a police officer, he worked as a |
15 | D.A.R.E. Officer and has stated that it was one of his favorite parts of the job. He has frequently |
16 | visited elementary schools taking questions, reading books, and building connections that have |
17 | lasted as those children have advanced within the school system. He also placed a high value in |
18 | staying touch with the entire community by speaking with church groups, neighborhood watch |
19 | groups, and at community events; and |

1 | WHEREAS, One further example of the esteem Chief Sullivan is held in by his peers |
2 | across the State was when he was selected to be the head of the Rhode Island Police Chief’s |
3 | Association. Despite his many law enforcement accomplishments, Chief Sullivan has stated that |
4 | his family has always been most important in his life and he is blessed by the incredible support |
5 | and love given to him by his wife, daughter and parents; now, therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby congratulates Police |
7 | Chief Brian Sullivan on his retirement and thanks him for his more than thirty-four years of |
8 | exemplary and devoted service to the Town of Lincoln; and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Brian Sullivan, Lincoln Police Chief. |
