RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING EAST PROVIDENCE HIGH SCHOOL ON | |
BEING NAMED A "GREEN RIBBON SCHOOL" BY THE UNITED STATES | |

1 | WHEREAS, The United States Department of Education annually recognizes top school |
2 | systems nationwide who are successfully creating eco-friendly and sustainable school |
3 | environments; and |
4 | WHEREAS, In August of 2021, EPHS opened the doors to its brand new modern high |
5 | school campus consisting of numerous environmentally friendly "green" components and |
6 | technologies including LED fixtures, daylighting, efficient HVAC systems, bioretention areas, |
7 | pervious surfaces, and six electric vehicle charging stations; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Also noting the school's inclusion of the "Three Pillars" related to the award |
9 | which includes reduced environmental impact and costs, improved health and wellness, and |
10 | effective environmental and sustainability education, EPHS was recognized as a Postsecondary |
11 | Sustainability Awardee for 2023 and was named a "Green Ribbon School"; and |
12 | WHEREAS, The National Green Ribbon Award is the highest award bestowed to schools |
13 | by the U.S. Department of Education and brings welcomed and deserved attention and |
14 | recognition to both the City of East Providence and its new High School for working tirelessly |
15 | through their high quality, dedicated staff to foster a culture of great expectation and achievement |
16 | for all students; and |
17 | WHEREAS, The new EPHS clearly demonstrates what is possible when committed local |
18 | government officials, school administrators and educators work together not only for the benefit |
19 | of students but also for the sustainability and health of future generations and our environment; |

1 | now, therefore be it |
2 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby recognizes and |
3 | congratulates East Providence High School on earning the prestigious "Green Ribbon School" |
4 | designation from the U.S. Department of Education; and be it further |
5 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
6 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Sandy Forand, Superintendent of East |
7 | Providence Schools, William F. Black, Principal of East Providence High School, Jenni |
8 | Azzaerno, Chair of the East Providence School Committee, and the Honorable Bob DaSilva, |
9 | Mayor of the City of East Providence. |
