A N   A C T

AMENDING THE ENABLING ACT CREATING THE BRISTOL-WARREN REGIONAL

SCHOOL DISTRICT

     

     Introduced By: Senators Felag, Lauria, and Ujifusa

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     WHEREAS: The enabling act creating the Bristol-Warren Regional School District, Public

Laws of 1991, Chapter 330 ("hereinafter referred to as the "enabling act") has not been reviewed

3

since its enactment in 1991; and

4

     WHEREAS: There have been many changes in the almost thirty-two (32) years since its

5

enactment, both at the district and state level in regard to education; and

6

     WHEREAS: There is no procedure set forth in the enabling act for a periodic review of the

7

enabling act; and

8

     WHEREAS: A periodic review of the enabling act is necessary to meet the constant, and

9

changing, challenges of public education.

     NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AS

11

FOLLOWS:

     SECTION 1. P.L. 1991, CHAPTER 330, THE ENABLING ACT CREATING THE

13

BRISTOL-WARREN REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT IS HEREBY AMENDED TO READ

14

AS FOLLOWS:

XVI (I) Process for Amending Regional Agreement

16

     The agreement with respect to the formation of a regional school district between the towns

17

of Bristol and Warren may be amended by an act of the general assembly accepted and approved

18

by a vote of the electors of the towns of Bristol and Warren. Said agreement shall be subject to

periodic mandatory review wherein the towns of Bristol and/or Warren shall submit to the general

2

assembly, in a report to the general assembly, for approval of any recommended amendments.

3

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act amends the act creating the Bristol-Warren regional school district to include a

2

section mandating periodic review of the enabling act by the member towns with a report to the

3

general assembly for approval of any recommended amendments.

4

     This act would take effect upon passage.
