HONORING SENATOR MICHAEL J. MCCAFFREY FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE | |
OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, On September 13, 1994, in the Democratic Primary, and once again on |
2 | November 8, 1994, in the General election, the Honorable Michael J. McCaffrey received the |
3 | confidence of his constituents and was elected to the Rhode Island State Senate, representing |
4 | portions of the City of Warwick in former District 16, which is now District 29. He has since |
5 | been re-elected thirteen times, diligently serving the people of this State for almost three decades; |
6 | and |
7 | WHEREAS, Michael McCaffrey graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School and |
8 | earned his Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Providence College followed by his Juris Doctor |
9 | from Suffolk University Law School. He is the husband of Deirdre McCaffrey and the father of |
10 | Michael, Cailin, Brenna, and Dierdre; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Senator McCaffrey’s astute legal erudition earned him the Chair of Senate |
12 | Judiciary from 2003 until 2017, at which time he was elected by his fellow Senators to the |
13 | position of Majority Leader on March 23, 2017; and |
14 | WHEREAS, As the Senate Majority Leader, the Honorable Michael McCaffrey is an Ex |
15 | Officio Member of all standing committees of the Senate. In addition, he has championed |
16 | numerous initiatives and legislation including enacting court reform measures, diversifying the |
17 | judiciary, and most recently, propelling the most progressive cannabis regulation system in the |
18 | country through the legislative process to final enactment; and |
19 | WHEREAS, In addition to his family and innumerable hours spent at the State House, |

1 | Senator McCaffrey is a successful practicing attorney. He maintains a private legal practice in |
2 | Warwick with his brother, James, and is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association. He also |
3 | previously served as a Grand Knight for the Warwick Knights of Columbus; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Senator McCaffrey serves as a model of dedicated and conscientious civic |
5 | service, and has earned the respect and the gratitude of the citizens in his community and the |
6 | people of this State for making Rhode Island a better place to live and grow; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby honors Senator |
8 | Michael McCaffrey for his service to the people of this State and wishes him good health, |
9 | fulfillment, and continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Michael J. McCaffrey. |
