HONORING DOUG WHITE (POSTHUMOUSLY) ON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE RHODE | |
ISLAND RADIO AND TELEVISION HALL OF FAME | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Radio and Television Hall of Fame annually recognizes |
2 | the leadership, dedication and achievements of longstanding on-air radio and television |
3 | contributors who have not only risen to the top of their careers, but have also earned distinction |
4 | and the respect of their peers and the citizens of Rhode Island; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Beginning in the late 1970s, Doug White anchored newscasts at NBC 10. |
6 | For almost three decades, he had been the main anchorman for the 6 and 11 PM broadcasts, and |
7 | for almost fifteen years, on the 5 p.m. newscast; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Before joining NBC 10, Mr. White had been an anchorman at WPRI-TV in |
9 | Providence for six years, and had also worked at WSMW-TV in Worcester, Massachusetts, and |
10 | WLBZ in Bangor, Maine; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mr. White’s dedication to the community included serving on the Board of |
12 | Trustees at Kent Hospital, the Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation and |
13 | the Rhode Island Academic Decathlon, and as a former member of the Massachusetts National |
14 | Guard, and the United States Coast Guard Reserve in Rhode Island; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Upholding the highest standards of journalism, Mr. White was honored with |
16 | numerous awards over the course of his career including an Emmy Award in 1980, the 1984 |
17 | “Man of the Year” Award from the Volunteers in Warwick schools, and was a member of the |
18 | Silver Circle of the New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & |
19 | Sciences which recognizes individuals “for their significant and long-term influence upon the |

2 | WHEREAS, Doug White’s career is eminently deserving of the accolades and regard he |
3 | has been afforded and is worthy of our recognition and admiration; now, therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby joins the family, |
5 | friends, and many fans in honoring Doug White (posthumously), on behalf of all Rhode Islanders, |
6 | for his eloquent and informative career and his induction into the Rhode Island Radio and |
7 | Television Hall of Fame; and be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
9 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Barbara White and Family. |
