RELATING TO ELECTIONS - GENERAL STATE OFFICERS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 17-2 of the General Laws entitled "General State Officers" is hereby |
2 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 17-2-4.1. Vacancies in the office of lieutenant governor. |
4 | If the office of lieutenant governor shall become vacant or shall have become vacant by |
5 | reason of death, resignation or otherwise, the general assembly in grand committee shall elect a |
6 | person who would otherwise be eligible to both run for the office and hold the office of lieutenant |
7 | governor, pursuant to the constitution of the state of Rhode Island, to fill said vacancy. |
8 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
