EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MARY F. WORTHY | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Mary |
2 | F. Worthy. She was born in Newberry, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Bertha Worthy |
3 | and the late Luther Perry Jeter, and was proceeded in death by her siblings Mary H. Huber, Willie |
4 | Mae Lutz, Freddie Worthy, James Worthy, Eugene Cook and Collie Jeter; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Ms. Worthy was proud of her country roots, and spent time in Boston, |
6 | Brooklyn, Philadelphia and other parts of the east coast before she settled in Woonsocket with her |
7 | daughter and grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend who |
8 | worked tirelessly to provide for her loved ones; and |
9 | WHEREAS, For many years, Ms. Worthy was a food service worker with the |
10 | Woonsocket School Department and was always a joy to be around. Her colleagues and the |
11 | school kids adored her and looked forward to the many smiles, laughs, words of wisdom and |
12 | love, uplifting greetings and every day encouragement she would dollop out with the food and |
13 | beverage she gave the children; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Ms. Worthy was a woman of deep faith. She was an active member of St. |
15 | James Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board, the Missionary Society, and was a |
16 | Primary Sunday School Teacher. In her free time, Ms. Worthy enjoyed nothing more than |
17 | spending quality time with her grandchildren and her many friends; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Ms. Worthy is survived by two children, Lieutenant Colonel Sharon |
19 | Harmon and Thomas Worthy and his wife, Latunga. She is also survived by her siblings, Sarah |
20 | Taylor, Barbara Jean Jeter, Patsy Sims, Mary Jeter, Jackie Jeter, Thomasina Worthy, Ramai Jeter |

1 | and Sammy Graham. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Marcus Harmon, Valerie |
2 | Harmon, Tiauni Worthy, and Tiauri Lindler, Goddaughter Chandra Dean, sisters-in-law |
3 | Thomasina Suber and Betty Suber, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The loss of Mary Worthy is grievous but the immense love she gave to her |
5 | family and friends and her always joyful and compassionate spirit will live on forever in the |
6 | hearts of all who were blessed to know her; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its deepest |
8 | condolences on the passing of Mary F. Worthy; and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Lieutenant Colonel Sharon Harmon and |
11 | Thomas Worthy. |
