It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Title 40 of the General Laws entitled "HUMAN SERVICES" is hereby |
2 | amended by adding thereto the following chapter: |
3 | CHAPTER 8.16 |
4 | GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION |
5 | 40-8.16-1. Appropriations. |
6 | (a) Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary, as to any funding appropriated by the |
7 | general assembly of the state of Rhode Island for the support of Medicaid graduate medical |
8 | education funding, all NICU Level 4 medical centers who provide care to the state's critically ill |
9 | and indigent populations shall be eligible for receipt of said funding. The executive office of health |
10 | and human services is directed to use any appropriated funds to support graduate medical education |
11 | programs and research in areas including, but not limited to, maternal health, mental health, and |
12 | substance abuse. |
13 | (b) The secretary of the executive office of health and human services shall determine the |
14 | appropriate Medicaid payment mechanism to implement this program and amend any state plan |
15 | documents as required to implement the payments. |
16 | (c) Payments for graduate medical education programs shall be made annually. |

3 | secretary of the executive office of health and human services to determine the appropriate |
4 | Medicaid payment mechanism in order to make the payments annually. |
