S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF FRANCIS MCNELIS,

M.D.

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Francis

McNelis, M.D. Dr. McNelis of Providence was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late James

McNelis and the late Catherine McNelis. He was the devoted husband of the late Shirley McNelis

and the late June McNelis; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. McNelis was the Chief of Staff for Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and

Throat), at Rhode Island Hospital, and also treated patients at Miriam, Our Lady of Fatima,

Pawtucket Memorial Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was also a Clinical Professor of

Surgery/Otolarygology at the Brown University School of Medicine; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. McNelis served our nation with honor and distinction during World War

II as a medical doctor with the United States Navy. Throughout his distinguished career as a

medical doctor he was widely respected and admired by his peers and colleagues, and worked

tirelessly to ensure that his patients always received the best medical care possible; and

     WHEREAS, Francis McNelis leaves behind his children, Frances Houser and her

husband, Lance, J. Kevin McNelis and his wife, Karen, Joanne Sheehan, Stephen McNelis, and

Marian McNelis and her husband Tom Arnold, and David Bubier and his wife, Linda. He was the

father of the late Brian McNelis. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and eleven great-

grandchildren; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its deepest

condolences on the passing of Francis McNelis, M.D.; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Frances Houser, J. Kevin McNelis, Joanne

Sheehan, Stephen McNelis and Marian McNelis.
