CONGRATULATING DANIEL J. MCKEE ON BECOMING THE GOVERNOR OF THE | |
STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Governor Daniel McKee is a person with vast public service experience, |
2 | having served in local government as a member of the Cumberland Town Council from 1992 to |
3 | 2001, and as the Mayor of Cumberland twice, first from 2001 to 2005, and later from 2007 to |
4 | 2015. He has also served our State in an executive capacity as Rhode Island’s 69th Lieutenant |
5 | Governor from 2015 to 2021; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Governor McKee was born in Cumberland to a family that has owned and |
7 | operated a small business for more than one hundred years. He graduated from Cumberland High |
8 | School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Assumption College, and holds a Master of |
9 | Public Administration degree from the Harvard Kennedy School; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Governor McKee has had a long and successful business career, serving as |
11 | an officer of McKee Brothers, an air conditioning, heating, and oil delivery business, and ran a |
12 | health and fitness business for more than thirty years; and |
13 | WHEREAS, In his time as the Mayor of Cumberland, Governor McKee successfully |
14 | collaborated with federal and state officials to minimize the damage from the historic flooding |
15 | that hit Cumberland and other parts of Rhode Island in 2010. As Lieutenant Governor, he served |
16 | as the Chair of the National Lieutenant Governors Association, Co-Chair of the NLGA’s Energy |
17 | Committee, and as a member of its Education Committee; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Governor McKee has focused much of his energies as an elected official on |
19 | growing the economy and creating an environment and climate in which small businesses can |

1 | thrive and job opportunities are abundant. He has also been a tireless champion of Rhode Island’s |
2 | Cities and Towns; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Governor McKee coached basketball, both boys and girls, at all levels, and |
4 | won two State AAU Basketball Championships in 1998 and 2000. He has also served as a |
5 | member of the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Cumberland-Lincoln for twenty- |
6 | five years. He is married to Susan and has two adult children, Matt and Kara; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby congratulates Daniel |
8 | McKee on becoming the 76th Governor of the State of Rhode Island. We wish him well and look |
9 | forward to working with him to solve the difficult problems facing the State of Rhode Island; and |
10 | be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Governor of the State of Rhode |
13 | Island, Mr. Daniel J. McKee. |
