A N   A C T

RELATING TO GENERAL ASSEMBLY -- REDISTRICTING

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 22-1 of the General Laws entitled "Composition of Senate" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     22-1-1.1. Special voting requirements for senate redistricting.

     The passage of all acts which address the redistricting of the senate shall satisfy special

5

voting requirements. No amendments to § 22-1-2 entitled "Districts" or any senate redistricting

6

legislation, may be adopted unless they are supported by a majority of the members present and

7

voting in each of the two (2) chambers, and by a majority of members in each of the two (2) largest

8

member-represented political parties.

     SECTION 2. Chapter 22-2 of the General Laws entitled "Composition of House of

10

Representatives" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     22-2-1.1. Special voting requirements for house of representatives redistricting.

12

     The passage of all acts which address the redistricting of the house of representatives shall

13

satisfy special voting requirements. No amendments to § 22-2-2 entitled "Districts" or any house

14

of representatives redistricting legislation, may be adopted unless they are supported by a majority

15

of the members present and voting in each of the two (2) chambers, and by a majority of members

16

in each of the two (2) largest member-represented political parties.

     SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would require for adoption of redistricting legislation an affirmative vote of a

2

majority of representatives and senators voting by each of the two (2) chambers' and by a majority

3

of representatives and senators in the largest two (2) member-represented political parties.

4

     This act would take effect upon passage.
