EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JOHN BRITTO | |

1 | WHEREAS, John "Johnny" Britto, a legendary fixture within the Fox Point community, |
2 | passed away on January 26, 2021; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. Britto served as the Athletic Director at the Fox Point Boys & Girls |
4 | Club until his retirement in 2017, and was a positive influence in the lives of five generations of |
5 | Fox Point residents, especially members of the Cape Verdean community; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Mr. Britto was always available to assist those in need and his advice and |
7 | wisdom were highly valued by many, especially newly arrived immigrants from Cape Verde |
8 | finding their way in a new country. Whether Mr. Britto was teaching kids how to play basketball, |
9 | refereeing a sports activity, or telling interesting stories with important life lessons contained |
10 | within them, the one constant was that he was always striving to ensure that the Fox Point |
11 | neighborhood was a welcoming and safe place in which all residents, including new immigrants, |
12 | could thrive and realize their full potential; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Mr. Britto received numerous awards and honors throughout his |
14 | distinguished public service career, including the Outstanding Citizenship Hero Award from Blue |
15 | Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, induction into the Martin Luther King Jr. Hall of Fame by |
16 | the City of Providence in 2013, and most recently, he was among six Fox Point "elders" honored |
17 | by the City of Providence; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Mr. Britto leaves behind his five children, Anthony Britto, John Britto, the |
19 | Honorable Robert Britto, East Providence City Council President, Karen Farmer, and Donna |
20 | Silva. Mr. Britto was the father of the late Denisse Britto. He also leaves behind ten |

2 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its deepest |
3 | condolences to the Britto Family on the passing of John Britto; and be it further |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
5 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Anthony Britto, John Britto, the Honorable |
6 | Robert Britto, Karen Farmer and Donna Silva. |
