CREATING A SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION TO STUDY AND REVIEW RHODE | |
ISLAND'S MINIMUM WAGE | |

1 | RESOLVED, That a special legislative commission be and the same is hereby created |
2 | consisting of eleven (11) members: four (4) of whom shall be members of the Senate, three (3) of |
3 | whom shall be appointed by the President of the Senate, and one of whom shall be appointed by |
4 | the Minority Leader; one of whom shall be the Director of the Rhode Island Department of Labor |
5 | and Training, or designee; one of whom shall be the President of the Rhode Island Hospitality |
6 | Association, or designee; one of whom shall be the Executive Director of the Rhode Island |
7 | Manufacturers Association (RIMA), or designee; one of whom shall be the State Director of the |
8 | National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), or designee; one of whom shall be the |
9 | President of the Rhode Island AFL-CIO, or designee; one of whom shall be a member of the |
10 | general public, to be appointed by the President of the Senate; and one of whom shall be an |
11 | owner of a restaurant in Rhode Island, to be appointed by the President of the Senate. |
12 | The purpose of said commission shall be to make a comprehensive study of Rhode |
13 | Island’s minimum wage including a comparison and analysis of neighboring states practices and |
14 | provide recommendations that would benefit all Rhode Islanders. |
15 | Forthwith upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at |
16 | the call of the President of the Senate and organize and shall select a chairperson from among the |
17 | legislators. |
18 | Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in like manner as the original appointment. |
19 | The membership of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services. |

1 | All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and information, |
2 | documentary and otherwise, to said commission and its agents as is deemed necessary or |
3 | desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution. |
4 | The Joint Committee on Legislative Services is hereby authorized and directed to provide |
5 | suitable quarters for said commission; and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the |
7 | Senate no later than May 4, 2021, and said commission shall expire on January 4, 2022. |
