H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

THANKING REVEREND FARRELL EDWARD MCLAUGHLIN FOR FIFTY YEARS OF

FAITHFUL SERVICE TO GOD AND THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, On May 22nd of 1971, Reverend Farrell Edward McLaughlin was ordained

to the Holy Priesthood by then Bishop Bernard M. Kelley, Auxiliary Bishop of Providence. Over

the next fifty years, Father McLaughlin guided parishioners in their walk with the Lord,

celebrated the joys of life with them, and comforted them in times of sickness and tragedy; and

     WHEREAS, Father McLaughlin was born in Providence on August 12th of 1944, the son

of Edward McLaughlin and Angela Gearin. He attended LaSalle Academy, graduated from Our

Lady of Providence Seminary in 1967, and from St. Mary Seminary in 1971. He was ordained in

St. Joseph Church in Pascoag, Rhode Island; and

     WHEREAS, Throughout the course of his distinguished career, Father McLaughlin

served with distinction in numerous parishes and capacities across Rhode Island. He has been a

Chaplain, Parish Priest, Pastor and school teacher for many years. In addition, he has been very

active in the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Ministry; and

     WHEREAS, Since his retirement as the Pastor of Our Lady of Victory and St. Vincent de

Paul Church in 2015, Father McLaughlin has celebrated masses on weekends for the Diocese of

Providence, and has worked with the organization Cross Catholic Outreach, delivering food, and

providing shelter, comfort and hope to the most impoverished throughout the world; and

     WHEREAS, Father McLaughlin has spent the past fifty years serving the Lord, the

Church, and parishioners with love, kindness and untiring service, and has enriched the spiritual

lives of many Rhode Islanders. In joyous celebration of the 50th Anniversary of his Ordination,

Father McLaughlin will be celebrating a Mass at the Church of Saint Joseph in Pascoag, Rhode

Island, on May 23rd, 2021; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

honors and thanks the Reverend Farrell Edward McLaughlin for fifty years of faithful service to

God and the people of Rhode Island. We moreover wish him good health and many more years of

devoted service to his fellow man; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Reverend Farrell Edward McLaughlin.
