NURSING HOME WORKERS FOR THE TIRELESS SERVICE AND COMPASSIONATE | |

1 | WHEREAS, "National Skilled Nursing Care Week", formerly known as "National |
2 | Nursing Home Week", has been held annually since 1967, and always begins on Mother’s Day. |
3 | The observance is sponsored by the American Health Care Association in recognition of the |
4 | important role skilled nursing care centers play in caring for America’s seniors and individuals |
5 | with disabilities; and |
6 | WHEREAS, According to the American Health Care Association’s National Center for |
7 | Assisted Living, there are more than 15,400 nursing facilities across the United States, with |
8 | approximately 1.3 million residents and 1.6 million workers. These 1.6 million nursing home |
9 | workers consist of nursing assistants, licensed practical and vocational nurses, registered nurses, |
10 | other health care and personal support occupations, business administrative and social services |
11 | staff, food preparation and serving related occupations, as well as numerous additional support |
12 | workers; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Our dedicated skilled nursing care center professionals work tirelessly and |
14 | diligently everyday to ensure that the frail, the elderly, and disabled adults in long-term care |
15 | receive the best possible care; and |
16 | WHEREAS, The theme for this year's commemoration of "National Skilled Nursing Care |
17 | Week" is "Together Through the Seasons" which reflects on the incredible and overwhelming |
18 | challenges faced by skilled care centers and their personnel during the pandemic and the steadfast |

1 | commitment they have maintained to ensure the safety and well-being of their residents at all |
2 | times; now, therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
4 | proclaims May 9th through 15th of 2021 as "National Skilled Nursing Care Week" in the State of |
5 | Rhode Island; and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
7 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Director Nicole Alexander-Scott, MD, MPH, |
8 | Rhode Island Department of Health. |
