1 | WHEREAS, The Mount Pleasant Kilties Girls Basketball Team began their quest to |
2 | repeat as Division III champions in the first round of the playoffs when they easily dispatched |
3 | Mount St. Charles Academy by the score of 49 to 28 to meet Division winner North Smithfield in |
4 | the Semi-finals. In an exciting back-and-forth contest, Mount Pleasant rallied back from a three |
5 | point half-time deficit thanks to the clutch play of Mount Pleasant’s senior forward Francheska |
6 | Contreras, who scored ten points in the third quarter and a game high twenty-one points for the |
7 | game to lead the Kilties to a tough 53-48 victory and advancement to the Championship game; |
8 | and |
9 | WHEREAS, In a thrilling championship game held at Rhode Island College, Mount |
10 | Pleasant repeated as Division III Rhode Island Champions in a come-from-behind victory over |
11 | their arch-rivals, Mount Hope. Things didn’t look good for the Kilties early in the fourth quarter |
12 | as they trailed by seven points and had their star player, Francheska Contreras, on the bench due |
13 | to foul trouble. However, Ms. Contreras once again lived up to her reputation as being a big game |
14 | clutch performer as she put on one of the greatest title game performances, scoring fourteen of |
15 | Mount Pleasant’s last nineteen points and rallied her team to dramatic 45-40 victory to repeat as |
16 | State Champions; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Winning a State Championship in any sport in a difficult endeavor, one that |
18 | requires that everyone on the team give all they have and put personal aspirations behind team |
19 | goals. The Mount Pleasant Girls Basketball Team certainly had all of those attributes in |

2 | Contreras, Elilah Coste, Juliza Coste, Amya Perry, Kelsey Hatch, Davonna Jackley, Nolfry |
3 | Luciano, Jasmine Garcia, Nayeshka Contreras, Julissa Walmsey, Jalaya Walmsey, Ameera |
4 | Quinones, Nicole Susana and Samira Brigs, and the outstanding leadership and innovative |
5 | coaching provided by Head Coach Zachary Pinto and Assistant Coach Carmen Marshall; now, |
6 | therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
8 | congratulates the Mount Pleasant High School Girls Basketball Team on winning the 2021 |
9 | Division III State Championship; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Head Coach Zachary Pinto, Mount Pleasant |
12 | Girls Basketball Team. |
