THANKING THE HONORABLE GINA RAIMONDO FOR HER SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE | |
OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND AND CONGRATULATING HER ON BEING NAMED | |
COMMERCE SECRETARY FOR THE UNITED STATES | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Honorable Gina Raimondo grew up in the Town of Smithfield, the |
2 | youngest child in a loving and close-knit Italian-American family, that not only shaped her values |
3 | but also gave her the impetus to succeed; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Preparing for what has become a brilliant and efficacious career, the |
5 | Honorable Gina Raimondo attended LaSalle Academy, graduating as the class valedictorian, |
6 | received her Bachelor's degree with honors from Harvard, earned a coveted Rhodes Scholarship |
7 | to Oxford University, where she attained her doctorate, and received her Juris Doctor from Yale |
8 | Law School; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In November of 2010, the Honorable Gina Raimondo was elected to serve |
10 | as the State's General Treasurer, where she gained nation-wide acclaim for instituting |
11 | reformations to the State's unfunded pension liability; and |
12 | WHEREAS, In January of 2015, the Honorable Gina Raimondo was sworn in as the 75th |
13 | Governor of the State of Rhode Island and became the first woman to serve in that capacity. In |
14 | order to build a more robust and equitable state, she focused on improving the State's economy, |
15 | with significant investments in infrastructure, education, and job training; and |
16 | WHEREAS, During her tenure, Governor Raimondo faced the historic COVID-19 |
17 | pandemic with the foresight and initiative to handle the enormity of the day-to-day |
18 | responsibilities of overseeing the safety of our State's citizenry, mitigating the economic impact |
19 | on the state's businesses, and initiating essential life and death medical responses and protocols; |

2 | WHEREAS, The accomplishments and eminent qualifications of the Honorable Gina |
3 | Raimondo stand as testament to her abilities to effectively and laudably administrate and lead. In |
4 | February of 2021, Rhode Island's loss became our country's gain as those capabilities were |
5 | acknowledged on the national level when she was confirmed as the United States Secretary of |
6 | Commerce; and |
7 | WHEREAS, The Honorable Gina Raimondo's success has not simply been a result of her |
8 | immense talents, but is also due to her inner strength, her honor, and her focus and determination. |
9 | She is a true leader who has achieved successes that very few people would have even dared to |
10 | imagine and she is eminently worthy of our gratitude and respect; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
12 | honors, thanks, and congratulates the Honorable Gina Raimondo. We moreover wish her good |
13 | health, much happiness, and continued success in her future role as the United States Secretary of |
14 | Commerce; and be it further |
15 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
16 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Gina Raimondo. |
