A N   A C T

RELATING TO INSURANCE -- NONPROFIT DENTAL SERVICE CORPORATIONS

     Introduced By: Representative Brian P. Kennedy

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 27-20.1 of the General Laws entitled "Nonprofit Dental Service

Corporations" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     27-20.1-23. Review of dental fees.

     The fee allowances to be paid to a participating dentist as compensation for the provision

of services to subscribers as part of a contract between a dentist and a nonprofit dental service

corporation or a nonprofit hospital and medical service corporation and the method of determining

such fees, shall at all times be subject to a public hearing with, and the written approval of, the

insurance commissioner, to ensure the fees paid to participating dentists are fair and reasonable and

the method of determining such fees is considerate of the costs of running a dental practice in Rhode

Island.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would authorize the insurance commissioner to review dental fees paid to

participating dentists by a nonprofit dental service corporation and a medical service corporation

to ensure that they are fair and reasonable.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
