RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT -- DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC

SAFETY

     Introduced By: Representatives Speakman, Knight, Henries, and Filippi

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 42-7.3 of the General Laws entitled "Department of Public Safety"

is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     42-7.3-11. Statewide storage of body camera footage.

     (a) The department of public safety is hereby authorized to provide for the retention of

body camera footage of all cities and towns where body cameras are in use by municipal police

officers.

     (b) The superintendent of the state police is authorized to provide the physical location for

the storage of the body camera footage, the design of a retrieval system of the footage and the

employment of the necessary personnel for its operation.

     (c) Storage and retrieval of the footage shall be maintained in accordance with rules and

regulations adopted from time to time by the superintendent of the state police.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
