HONORING POLICE CHIEF MAJOR DANIEL BARZYKOWSKI ON THE OCCASION OF | |
HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE CENTRAL FALLS POLICE DEPARTMENT | |

1 | WHEREAS, Throughout history, our nation has been propitiously blessed with men and |
2 | women who are willing to step forward and safeguard the freedoms and liberties we hold so dear. |
3 | These often unsung heroes go about the day-to-day task of upholding the laws of this state and it |
4 | is fitting that we recognize their value and myriad contributions; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Daniel Barzykowski was raised in the City of Central Falls, where his |
6 | family still resides. He is a graduate of Central Falls High School, received a Master of Business |
7 | Administration from Salve Regina University, and a Master's degree in criminal justice with a |
8 | concentration in cyber security and cyber intelligence; and |
9 | WHEREAS, From August 1995 to August 1999, then-Officer Barzykowski served as a |
10 | correctional officer at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility. In December of 1999, he joined |
11 | the Central Falls Police Department as a patrol officer. By consistently demonstrating integrity |
12 | and outstanding leadership skills, he rose through the ranks and was promoted to Sergeant in |
13 | 2007, Lieutenant in 2011, Captain in 2012, and Major in January of 2013; and |
14 | WHEREAS, In the spring of 2019, Major Daniel Barzykowski was appointed Chief of |
15 | Police by Mayor James Diossa and was unanimously endorsed by the City Council. He became |
16 | the City's 17th police chief; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Professionally, Major Barzykowski has served as a past president of the |
18 | Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #2, past commander of the Central Falls Police Honor Guard, a |
19 | peer support counselor for the Police Department, and as a police liaison for the Rhode Island |

1 | Special Olympics; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Police Chief Barzykowski's dedication to his community has always gone |
3 | beyond his duties as a police officer. He has helped to find jobs for many young people in the |
4 | community, has helped families around Christmas through the Holiday Express Program, and has |
5 | conscientiously worked with Black Lives Matter Rhode Island for social equity and justice; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Major Daniel Barzykowski is truly "an officer and a gentleman" and the |
7 | citizenry of Central Falls and Rhode Island lead far safer and more secure lives due to his |
8 | extraordinary career. His dedication to the job and respect for his fellow police officers will be |
9 | sorely missed; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
11 | recognizes, honors, and thanks Major Daniel Barzykowski on the occasion of his retirement after |
12 | more than twenty-one years of steadfast and unselfish service to the people of Central Falls and |
13 | the State of Rhode Island. We wish him good health, fulfillment, and continued success in all his |
14 | future endeavors; and be it further |
15 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
16 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Major Daniel Barzykowski. |
