HONORING BATTALION CHIEF KEN BROUSSEAU OF THE CITY OF CENTRAL FALLS | |

1 | WHEREAS, In the evening hours on January 11th of 2020, the Central Falls Fire Alarm |
2 | Office received a Box Alarm. Fire companies were sent out under the direction of Battalion Chief |
3 | Ken Brousseau, the shift commander, who arrived first at a large apartment building set back |
4 | from the main road on Cross Street in Central Falls; and |
5 | WHEREAS, As Chief Brousseau approached the building's alarm panel, he encountered |
6 | smoke in the first-floor hallway and occupants armed with a fire extinguisher. They told the Chief |
7 | that apartment 103 was on fire and the occupant was still inside; and |
8 | WHEREAS, As Chief Brousseau entered the smoke filled apartment, he could see an |
9 | elderly man lying on the floor. He quickly reached the unconsciousness man and pulled him to |
10 | safety as Members of Ladder 1, under the command of Captain Sam Dyman, arrived and assisted |
11 | in bringing the man to the stairway lobby. He soon regained consciousness and was quickly |
12 | transported to the hospital where he was treated and eventually released. The Chief's quick |
13 | actions surely saved the man from serious life-altering injuries or even death; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Chief Brousseau together with the on-duty shift finished extinguishing the |
15 | fire and searched the large apartment building for any other occupants. Their efforts resulted in |
16 | limited damage to other apartments in the building which allowed tenants to return to their homes |
17 | later that same evening; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Sir Winston Churchill was quoted as saying, "We make a living by what we |
19 | get, we make a life by what we give." There is no doubt that Battalion Chief Brousseau and |

1 | members of the on-duty shift from that fateful night gave their best effort and they have truly |
2 | distinguished themselves as persons worthy of our utmost admiration and gratitude; now, |
3 | therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
5 | recognizes Battalion Chief Ken Brousseau for his heroic actions in saving the life of an elderly |
6 | man and thanking him and all the on-duty fire fighters who assisted for their dedication and |
7 | service to the people of the City of Central Falls and the State; and be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
9 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Battalion Chief Ken Brousseau. |
