It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 22-11-3 of the General Laws in Chapter 22-11 entitled "Joint |
2 | Committee on Legislative Services" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
3 | 22-11-3. Functions. |
4 | (a) It shall be exclusively the responsibility of the joint committee to act upon all |
5 | administrative matters affecting the operation of the general assembly, including, but not limited |
6 | to: |
7 | (1) The preparation of the legislative payrolls; |
8 | (2) The preparation of requests for the annual operating budget for the general assembly; |
9 | (3) The control of house and senate appropriations, including expenditures of standing, |
10 | select, and special committees of the general assembly, except those provided otherwise by law; |
11 | (4) All printing for the general assembly and its members and staff including, but not |
12 | limited to, stationery, bills and journals and covers for them, daily calendars, public laws, acts of a |
13 | local and private nature, and resolutions; |
14 | (5) The procuring of office space, supplies, equipment, and professional and technical |
15 | assistants for the general assembly; and |
16 | (6) The exclusive responsibility for the purchase or rental of and the installation, obtaining, |
17 | upkeep, and maintenance of electronic voting devices and equipment incidental to the devices, and |
18 | sound systems for the house of representatives and senate chambers, including, but not limited to, |

1 | entering into contracts and agreements for the purchase, rental, installation, or maintenance of the |
2 | equipment and procuring the necessary supplies for the systems. |
3 | (b) In addition, the joint committee will have exclusive authority on office space allocations |
4 | and maintenance and repair in this state capitol building for all agencies of government, except the |
5 | offices of the governor and the offices of the secretary of state. |
6 | (c) The joint committee shall annually appropriate an amount sufficient to provide |
7 | mementos commemorating Rhode Island as the Ocean State to be made available free of charge to |
8 | members of the general assembly to be used as mementos for dignitaries and elected officials to |
9 | promote and support Rhode Island's goodwill and reputation. |
10 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
