EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE VICTOR J. | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this House has learned of the passing of the |
2 | Honorable Victor J. Beretta, a highly respected retired Associate Justice of the Rhode Island |
3 | District Court, the loving husband of Dolores for sixty-seven years, and the devoted father of |
4 | Lisanne and her husband, Hans-Christian Ritter, Victor Beretta Jr., and his wife, Dayna, Lili |
5 | Fontana, Maria Beretta, Melissa and Jean Labrecque, and Melinda and her husband Bruce |
6 | Namenson. He was also the very proud grandfather of Giana and her husband, Isaac, Zach, |
7 | Michael and his wife, Emily, Gabrielle, Max, Jacob, Hannah and her husband, John, Noble, and |
8 | Juliette, and one great-grandson, Cayden; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Victor Beretta was a son of Victor and Chiara Beretta |
10 | and the brother of Aldo Beretta and his wife, Elaine, and Raymond Beretta and his wife, Joan. |
11 | He attended Windmill Street Elementary, Samuel Slater Junior High School, and Pawtucket West |
12 | Senior High School, and earned his Bachelor's degree from Providence College, and his Juris |
13 | Doctorate from Boston University Law School. He served our country with honor as an |
14 | Administrative Specialist in the United States Army; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Upon passing the Rhode Island Bar, Justice Beretta served as a Clerk for the |
16 | Rhode Island Supreme Court and subsequently took a position as an Associate with the |
17 | Providence law firm of Arcaro, Bellilove and Kolodney. In 1966, he was appointed City Solicitor |
18 | for the City of Pawtucket, and in 1972, was sworn in as Associate Justice of the Rhode Island |
19 | District Court, a position he held for twenty-five years until his retirement; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Justice Beretta amassed numerous professional distinctions and served on |
2 | myriad professional and altruistic boards including, the Equitable Credit Union of Pawtucket, the |
3 | Parish Counsel of Saint Maria Goretti Church, the Fox Hill Lane Association of Franconia in |
4 | New Hampshire, the North Farm Homeowners' Association of Bristol, the Windstar Board of |
5 | Directors of Naples, Florida, Rhode Island State Chairman of the National Institute of Municipal |
6 | Law Officers, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus; and |
7 | WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Justice Beretta was an avid tennis player, skier, golfer, |
8 | and boater. He also enjoyed spending time in the White Mountains, vacationing and skiing with |
9 | his wife, children, and grandchildren; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Justice Beretta possessed a brilliant mind, and a fair and magnanimous |
11 | spirit, and he will be profoundly missed by those who had the good fortune to be a part of his |
12 | vital and fulfilling life; now, therefore be it |
13 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
14 | expresses its deepest sympathies on the passing of the Honorable Victor J. Beretta, Jr. He will |
15 | forever be remembered by the entire membership and the citizens of this State as a highly |
16 | respected and admired judge who presided with fairness and justice over the matters before the |
17 | Rhode Island District Court; and be it further |
18 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
19 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Dolores Beretta and Family. |
