EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF BIENVENIDO R. GARCIA | |

1 | WHEREAS, Bienvenido "Bien" Garcia, a lifelong Providence resident and distinguished |
2 | community activist, passed away on January 19, 2021. He was the son of Rosa Garcia of the |
3 | Dominican Republic; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Bienvenido Garcia was a tireless advocate on behalf of the Dominican |
5 | community residing in the south-side of Providence. He was a social worker and a program |
6 | manager for the Urban League of Rhode Island, who strived daily to attain good jobs, good |
7 | schools, and access to quality health care services for his community; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia was also a founding member of both Club Juan Pablo Duarte |
9 | and the Dominican-American Association of Rhode Island. He was a kind and caring person who |
10 | was always available to help someone in need; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia is survived by his former spouse Carmen Torres, and his four |
12 | children, Tania Garcia, Rasheedah Garcia, Joseph Garcia, and Raisa Garcia-Diaz. He also leaves |
13 | behind his seven grandchildren and his three siblings; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia's legacy of service to the Dominican-American community of |
15 | Providence and to the unfortunate living amongst us will never be forgotten by the many people |
16 | who deeply respected and admired Mr. Bienvenido; now, therefore be it |
17 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
18 | expresses its deepest condolences to the Garcia Family on the passing of Bienvenido Garcia; and |
19 | be it further |
20 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
