EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF SHIRLEY ANN WASHBURN | |

1 | WHEREAS, Shirley Ann Washburn, a well-respected resident of the City of Warwick, |
2 | passed away on December 28, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Washburn, Jr., |
3 | and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Vittorio and Evelyn Gallerani; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Shirley Washburn began her professional career as a laboratory |
5 | technologist. She then transitioned to a career in bookkeeping, working for a variety of companies |
6 | including the former Davisville Credit Union of Wickford; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Washburn made her biggest impact as a revered figure within the |
8 | political culture of Warwick. She served in numerous positions including on the Ward Committee |
9 | for decades, and on various other City boards. She received an appointment to the Electoral |
10 | Review Committee of the Rhode Island Senate and had also volunteered her time working |
11 | backstage in support of numerous campaigns, earning the label “Political Fairy Godmother”; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Shirley Washburn later became a full-time employee for the City of |
13 | Warwick, serving with integrity and distinction as a payroll clerk until her retirement; and |
14 | WHEREAS, During her retirement, Mrs. Washburn loved travelling around the globe and |
15 | scrapbooking about all of her incredible trips and adventures. Her other hobbies included doing |
16 | the daily crossword puzzle and cheering on her favorite New England sports teams. Above all, |
17 | she enjoyed spending time with her family and taking the entire family on cruise vacations; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Washburn is survived by her children Jean Correia and Paul |
19 | Washburn. She is also survived by her sister, June Stec, brother, Richard Gallerani and his wife, |
20 | Eleanor, daughter-in-law Francesca La Rosa, granddaughters Melissa, Nicole, Kristen, Jennifer, |

2 | Kayden, Jaxson, Khloe, Logan, Kaleb, Julian, Jolie, Jacob, and Connor. She was the mother of |

4 | Correia; now, therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
6 | expresses its condolences to the Washburn Family on the passing of Shirley Ann Washburn; and |
7 | be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
9 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Jean Correia and Paul Washburn. |
