EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES TO THE GIBB FAMILY ON THE PASSING OF DEACON | |

1 | WHEREAS, Deacon Clarence Gibb, a man of unbending faith, was called home to be |
2 | with the Lord on Monday, May 9, 2016; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Deacon Gibb was born in Manhattan, New York, on September 9, 1944. He |
4 | was the only child of Arthur Gibbs and Florence Gibbs. He was preceded in death by his wife of |
5 | thirty-four years, Jean F. Gibb; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Deacon Gibb worked for many years for the Veterans' Administration |
7 | Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island. He was a tireless worker and a dedicated employee. |
8 | During these years of employment, he received a certificate of training, a commendation, and an |
9 | award for his special and unique contribution to the Mission of the Department of Veterans' |
10 | Affairs. He also was "Employee of the Quarter" in August of 1995 and September of 1999, and |
11 | was nominated for "Federal Employee of the Year" in 1999; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Deacon Gibb was a member of the Congdon Street Baptist Church for many |
13 | years. He was baptized at the Church in June of 1983, and became a Deacon in January of 1999. |
14 | As a Deacon, he faithfully served the Lord, the congregants of the Church and the wider |
15 | community. He also served as a member of the Ushers Board, the Sexton Ministry, the Prison |
16 | Ministry, and the Men's Choir; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Deacon Gibb served our nation with honor and integrity as a member of the |
18 | United States Army from 1962 to 1964. He also served as a Cub Master for Pack 18 of the Boy |
19 | Scouts of America, as an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and as a member of |

1 | the Laborer's International Union of North America. Deacon Gibb also served at the State House |
2 | as a doorman for the Rhode Island Senate. Additionally, he was an avid sports fan, loved his cars, |
3 | and in his spare time enjoyed watching old westerns; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Deacon Gibb is survived by his sister-in-law Barbara Smith. He also leaves |
5 | behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other family members, and many |
6 | friends; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
8 | hereby expresses its condolences to the Gibb Family on the passing of Deacon Clarence Gibb; |
9 | and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Barbara Smith. |
