S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING PAULINE PERKINS-MOYE ON BEING SELECTED AS ONE OF

THE 2015 NEWPORT DAILY NEWS COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD WINNERS

     WHEREAS, The Newport Daily News established a "Community Service Award" in

1995 on the paper's 150th Anniversary celebration in order to recognize and encourage

volunteerism within the community. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of its award

presentations; and

     WHEREAS, Chosen from a field of nominees, Pauline Perkins-Moye, a longtime

resident of the City of Newport, was selected as one of this year’s recipients of this prestigious

award for her panoply of community service undertakings and activities; and

     WHEREAS, As a young girl, Pauline and her family experienced a tragedy that forever

changed her look on life. During that difficult time, she experienced first-hand the kindness of

others, and for much of her life, she has been giving back that kindness in tenfold; and

     WHEREAS, Pauline has vigorously worked to eliminate poverty and improve housing

for those less fortunate members of the community. She has endeavored to provide breakfast for

schoolchildren, and is a surrogate mother to countless children. She has spent more than 1,100

hours as a volunteer at Newport Hospital and has been a friend to an equal number of people in

need; and

     WHEREAS, Full of energy, generosity, and love, Pauline Perkins-Moye is a role model,

a guardian angel, an advocate and a loyal friend. She is an irreplaceable community asset and

deserving of this award and our gratitude; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates and honors Pauline Perkins-Moye on being selected as one of the 2015

Newport Daily News Community Service Award winners. Her years of devoted service to the

community are an inspiration to us all; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Pauline Perkins-Moye.
