H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING REPRESENTATIVE WILLIAM SAN BENTO, JR., FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE

PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island House of Representatives will be losing a valued member

with the retirement of Representative William San Bento who has chosen not to seek another

term in office; and

     WHEREAS, Representative San Bento has served the constituency of House District 58,

which covers neighborhoods in the City of Pawtucket, to the best of his ability, most currently

serving as the Deputy Majority Leader and Secretary of the House Committee on Finance. He

was first elected in November of 1992, and has returned for eleven consecutive terms; and

     WHEREAS, Having been a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives for

almost twenty-two years, Representative San Bento exemplifies the best qualities of those who

have chosen to devote their lives to the honorable profession of public service. Among his

accomplishments, he takes great pride in his efforts to support and bolster the state's gaming

facilities thereby protecting revenue for the state and its taxpayers; and

     WHEREAS, Representative San Bento was also a champion of small business, labor, and

local legislation, supporting bills to authorize the City of Pawtucket to issue tax anticipation notes

thereby assuring the community a more stable and beneficial financial outlook; and

     WHEREAS, As well as being a successful Representative for the people in the state

legislature, William San Bento is a business owner and insurance agent, and a devoted husband to

his wife, Joanne, the very supportive father of Todd, Chad and Heather, and the proud

grandfather of seven grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, Members, staff, and observers of the legislative process will greatly miss

Representative San Bento, although he will probably not miss the long hours of consideration and

debate on the hundreds of measures enacted each year; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby honors and commends Representative William San Bento, Jr., for

more than two decades of service to the people of this state. We wish him well as he gets to

spend more time with his family and has more time to get back into the swing with golf; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable William San Bento, Jr.
