CONGRATULATING LINDSAY TANNER ON BEING NAMED THE 2013 | |
|
"COMMUNITY SERVICE CITIZEN OF THE YEAR" | |

     WHEREAS, Lindsay Tanner has received the prestigious honor of being named the 2013 |
|
1-2 |
"Community Service Citizen of the Year" by the Richmond Grange. This award is presented to |
|
1-3 |
those individuals who are deeply committed to the betterment of their community; and |
|
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Lindsay comes from a family that believes in service and volunteerism, a |
|
1-5 |
trait which has been passed down from generation to generation. As a child, Lindsay was a |
|
1-6 |
Brownie and a Girl Scout, where she was taught to reach out to others. In that early experience, |
|
1-7 |
Lindsay made favors that were included on Meals on Wheels trays for the elderly; and |
|
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, At the age of eleven, Lindsay delivered Meals on Wheels with her mother to |
|
1-9 |
their elderly neighbors in Narragansett and South Kingstown. In 2002, Lindsay and members of |
|
1-10 |
her family took disaster preparedness/sheltering classes offered by the Rhode Island Chapter of |
|
1-11 |
the Red Cross. She was the youngest volunteer and only child involved until seven other children, |
|
1-12 |
encouraged by Lindsay's example, also joined. The Red Cross recognized Lindsay's efforts with |
|
1-13 |
its first time ever "Youth Volunteer Award"; and |
|
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, With her passionate commitment to helping others, Lindsay volunteered to |
|
1-15 |
be on a team to help the evacuees from New Orleans in "Rhode Island Responds to Hurricane |
|
1-16 |
Katrina," welcoming the weary evacuees. She helped them to gather bags of food, get settled at |
|
1-17 |
Quonset and have a warm meal, and prepared them for the journey to Middletown. Wanting to do |
|
1-18 |
more, Lindsay purchased clothing and personal items for four individuals and delivered the items |
|
1-19 |
herself; and |
|
2-1 |
     WHEREAS, Lindsay's spirit of giving is irrepressible. She volunteered at the Washington |
|
2-2 |
County Fair for years, long before she joined the Grange. She supported her grandmother, the |
|
2-3 |
Richmond Grange, and Southern Rhode Island Volunteers. She has recently joined the staff at |
|
2-4 |
Southern Rhode Island Volunteers, reaching out to others promoting service and volunteerism; |
|
2-5 |
and |
|
2-6 |
     WHEREAS, Lindsay Tanner's passionate commitment to helping others has become |
|
2-7 |
wonderfully contagious and her altruistic endeavors have distinguished her as a person worthy of |
|
2-8 |
this illustrious honor; now, therefore be it |
|
2-9 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
2-10 |
hereby congratulates Lindsay Tanner on being named the 2013 "Community Service Citizen of |
|
2-11 |
the Year" by the Richmond Grange. We commend her for her many extraordinary achievements |
|
2-12 |
and contributions, and wish her continued health, happiness, and success in all her future |
|
2-13 |
endeavors; and be it further |
|
2-14 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-15 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Lindsay Tanner. |
