CONGRATULATING THE MOUNT ST. CHARLES BOYS HOCKEY TEAM ON WINNING
THE RHODE ISLAND 2013 DIVISION I HOCKEY STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Introduced By: Senators Cote, Picard, Archambault, E O`Neill, and P Fogarty
     Date Introduced: April 04, 2013
Referred To: Placed on the Senate Consent Calendar
1-1 |
WHEREAS, Mount St. Charles, in jam-packed Meehan Auditorium, put on a superb |
1-2 |
display of hockey and defeated La Salle to win the state title. Mount’s hockey title in 2013 |
1-3 |
represents its 5th title in six seasons, and the 43rd title in the history of the Rhode Island |
1-4 |
Interscholastic League State Tournament, which extends back to 1933. Mount St. Charles hockey |
1-5 |
is not only the most dominant program in Rhode Island school sports, it is also one of the greatest |
1-6 |
high school sports programs in the nation; and |
1-7 |
WHEREAS, The current Mount St. Charles hockey team had to overcome the adversity |
1-8 |
of losing arguably its best player when star forward Brian Belisle went down to injury and missed |
1-9 |
two-thirds of the season. However, Mount not only persevered but flourished in his absence, only |
1-10 |
losing two games, and when he returned, the team went on to win thirteen games in a row, |
1-11 |
including the state title; and |
1-12 |
WHEREAS, Mount St. Charles met arch-rival La Salle in the state finals and began the |
1-13 |
series with a bang, rolling over La Salle 7-0 in the first game and firing 67 shots at the La Salle |
1-14 |
net. The second game was a closer affair, but in the end Mount St. Charles was simply too good, |
1-15 |
and it defeated La Salle 5-2 to win the Championship series 2-0; and |
1-16 |
WHEREAS, Mount was led by the stellar play of senior forward Daniel Glod, who |
1-17 |
scored three goals in the series and was named the Tournament MVP. However, winning a state |
1-18 |
title requires the complete support and determination of the entire team and every Mount St. |
1-19 |
Charles player contributed significantly towards the championship season. The members of the |
1-20 |
team include Justin F. Lewis, Mario F. DaFonte, Kevin J. Vallentine, Michael L. Corrente, Marc |
2-1 |
A. Squizzero, Patrick B. Holmes, Captain Brian P. Belisle, Henry L. Alienello, Vincent M. Pearl, |
2-2 |
Tyler J. Scroggina, Daniel S. Fontaine, Justin D’ Abrosca, Thomas J. Crudele, Keegan M. |
2-3 |
O’Leary, Daniel S. Glod, Ryan C. Badeau, Matthew N. Demers, Devin A. Votta, Keith T. |
2-4 |
Phaneuf, Peter B. Cook, William D. Burns, David R. Cannata, Brett D. Simoneau and Brian A. |
2-5 |
Larence. Also, no team can win a state title without excellent coaching and Mount St. Charles |
2-6 |
received that and more from its head coaches David Belisle, Norman Belisle, and Bill Belisle, and |
2-7 |
from its assistant coaches Peter Capizzo, Paul Guay, and Larry O'Donnell; now, therefore be it |
2-8 |
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
