CONGRATULATING GEORGE H. TRIPLETT ON HIS SELECTION AS CITIZEN OF THE

YEAR FOR 2013 BY THE NEWPORT ELKS LODGE #104

     WHEREAS, Newport Elks Lodge # 104, noted for its charitable acts and wide variety of

benevolent programs that assist Rhode Islanders and their communities, has selected George H.

1-3

Triplett to be its Citizen of the Year for 2013; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, The Citizen of the Year Award was established to recognize and encourage

1-5

"the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity" within the community. George

1-6

Triplett has been chosen as the 2013 recipient of this prestigious award because of his consistent

1-7

and selfless expenditure of time, talent, and energy for the benefit of the City of Newport; and

1-8

     WHEREAS, George graduated from Rogers High School in 1955, where he was voted

1-9

"Most Respected" by his high school classmates and received a track scholarship for college. He

1-10

went on to continue his studies at the University of Rhode Island; and

1-11

     WHEREAS, Knowing the significance of education, George was elected to the Newport

1-12

School Committee, where he has served for sixteen years, and as chairman for four of those

1-13

years. In 1989, the Newport School Committee dedicated the "George H. Triplett Elementary

1-14

School" in his honor; and

1-15

     WHEREAS, In addition to being awarded the 2013 Citizen of the Year Award, Mr.

1-16

Triplett has been the recipient of the Newport County NAACP "Role Model Award" and "Man of

1-17

the Year Award." He has also served tirelessly as the Director of the Newport County YMCA;

1-18

and

1-19

     WHEREAS, George Triplett has earned the unqualified admiration and respect of one of

1-20

the largest and most active fraternal organizations in the world, the Elks, as well as the citizenry

2-1

of the City of Newport. His years of devoted service to the community are truly an inspiration to

2-2

us all; now, therefore be it

2-3

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-4

hereby congratulates and honors George H. Triplett on his selection as the 2013 Citizen of the

2-5

Year by the City of Newport Elks Lodge #104. We applaud his accomplishments and wish him

2-6

the very best health and continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

2-7

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-8

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. George H. Triplett.
