RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING THE MUSICAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF SERGIO | |

     WHEREAS, Sergio Militello of Florence, Italy, is a world renowned musical talent |
|

whose interpretive ability and brilliant skills as an organist, concert performer, choirmaster, |
|
1-3 |
composer, teacher, and conductor has moved audiences across the world and distinguished him as |
|
1-4 |
one of the leading organist improvisers in the world; and |
|
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, The beauty of organ music raised in song and celebration is a joy to behold |
|
1-6 |
and an enriching experience for our senses and our souls. Mr. Militello’s concerts have been |
|
1-7 |
praised for their variety and interest and have been hailed for their unique repertoire, which is |
|
1-8 |
carefully chosen for each venue and instrument; and |
|
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Militello has written, published, and recorded myriad scores of choral |
|
1-10 |
and organ music and has written various compositions for solo instrumentalists and organ, soloist |
|
1-11 |
singers, chamber orchestras, and film music. In 2003, the Maestro received special appreciation |
|
1-12 |
from Pope John Paul II for a musical work dedicated to the Pontiff; and |
|
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, In addition to performing, Mr. Militello has lectured at various conferences |
|
1-14 |
and was the Choirmaster and Principal Organist at the great Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral in |
|
1-15 |
Florence; and |
|
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, In 2002, Mr. Militello founded the "International Center of Sacred Music." |
|
1-17 |
From 2003 through 2012, he served as Director of the "Diocesan Institute of Sacred Music," and |
|
1-18 |
in October of 2013, he is planning to teach a Master's class dedicated to Italian Renaissance |
|
1-19 |
Polyphony; and |
|

     WHEREAS, Sergio Militello is truly deserving of our recognition and praise. His body of |
|
2-21 |
professional work leaves a distinguished legacy whose impact can be felt not only in its |
|
2-22 |
originality, but also in the countless lives that his musicality has touched and inspired; now, |
|
2-23 |
therefore be it |
|

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
2-25 |
hereby applauds and celebrates the glorious musical accomplishments of Sergio Militello and |
|
2-26 |
warmly welcomes him to the Rhode Island State House; and be it further |
|
2-27 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-28 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Sergio Militello. |
