It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
|

     SECTION 1. Chapter 23-28.25 of the General Laws entitled "Fire Alarm Systems" is |
|

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
|
1-3 |
     23-28.25-1.2. Disabling of fire alarms. -- (a) In any city or town where fire safety is |
|
1-4 |
provided solely by means of a volunteer or call fire department, certified trained personnel, other |
|
1-5 |
than a firefighter, may disable a fire alarm in a commercial establishment when: |
|
1-6 |
     (1) There is no reasonable likelihood that the fire department will be able to respond in a |
|
1-7 |
reasonable amount of time; and |
|
1-8 |
     (2) An investigation has determined that there is no the premises. |
|
1-9 |
     (b) The state fire marshal shall establish a program for the training and certification of |
|
1-10 |
commercial employees in fire alarm operation. |
|
1-11 |
     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
