A N A C T

RELATING TO HUMAN SERVICES - ABUSED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN

     Introduced By: Senators E O`Neill, Lombardo, Bates, Sosnowski, and Ottiano

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 40-11 of the General Laws entitled "Abused and Neglected

Children" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     40-11-12.5. Requirements for school system enrollment with DCYF placement. –

When a child is placed in the custody of DCYF, the child's school system shall not be changed

1-5

from the child's current school system at the time of placement with DCYF and the child shall not

1-6

be placed or enrolled in a different school system until the medical and academic records for that

1-7

child are provided to the new school system prior to placing and enrolling that child in the new

1-8

school system.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would require that when a child is in DCYF custody before their school system

can be changed, their medical and academic records must be provided to the new school system

first.
