A N A C T

RELATING TO HIGHWAYS - RHODE ISLAND BRIDGE AND TURNPIKE AUTHORITY

     Introduced By: Senators DiPalma, Paiva Weed, Felag, Ottiano, and Bates

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 24-12-2 of the General Laws in Chapter 24-12 entitled "Rhode

Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     24-12-2. Authority created -- Composition. -- There is hereby created a body corporate

and politic to be known as the "Rhode Island turnpike and bridge authority." The authority shall

consist of five (5) nine (9) members, including the director of transportation, who shall be a

1-6

member ex officio, two (2) members, appointed by the governor and four (4) six (6) members

1-7

appointed by the governor one of whom who shall be the mayor of Newport or his/her elected

1-8

designee, one of whom shall be the town council president of Portsmouth or his/her elected

1-9

designee, one of whom shall be the town council president of Tiverton or his/her elected

1-10

designee, one of whom shall be the town council president of Jamestown or his/her elected

1-11

designee, one of whom shall be the town council president of the town of Middletown, or his/her

1-12

elected designee, and one of whom shall be the town council president of the town of Little

1-13

Compton, or his/her elected designee.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
