CONGRATULATING THE PORTSMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND ON | |
BEING SELECTED TO REPRESENT RHODE ISLAND IN THE 57TH PRESIDENTIAL | |
INAUGURAL PARADE | |

     WHEREAS, Americans still believe that our nation is the land of opportunity where all |

dreams can come true. For the Principal, Band Director, and members of the Portsmouth High |
1-3 |
School Marching Band and Color Guard, that dream has come true, with their selection to |
1-4 |
represent the Ocean State in the Presidential Inaugural Parade, to be held in Washington, D.C., on |
1-5 |
January 21st of 2013; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Considered to be a great achievement and honor, this once-in-a-lifetime |
1-7 |
opportunity was extended to the student musicians in December of 2012, after Inaugural staff |
1-8 |
members took notice of the band during its march in the National Cherry Blossom Festival in |
1-9 |
April of 2012; and |
1-10 |
      WHEREAS, High school bands provide students with the opportunity to participate in |
1-11 |
rewarding music programs that enhance their overall educational experience and oftentimes |
1-12 |
create life-long memories. Meeting at the Pentagon early on the morning of the parade and |
1-13 |
following a one and a half-mile route down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House, led by the |
1-14 |
President and Vice President, will certainly be an event to remember and cherish; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, One hundred and fifty-seven students, along with Portsmouth High School |
1-16 |
Band Director, Ted Rausch, Principal, Robert Littlefield, Assistant Band Director/Drum Line |
1-17 |
Instructor, Tim Marum, members of the school’s Color Guard, and Dance Team Instructor, Lisa |
1-18 |
Mailloux, will experience a momentous achievement that very few people would even dare to |
1-19 |
imagine, and we are proud to honor their triumph; now, therefore be it |
2-20 |
     RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-21 |
hereby congratulates the Portsmouth High School Marching Band on being selected to represent |
2-22 |
Rhode Island in the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade. We furthermore wish them good health |
2-23 |
and much success; and be it further |

      RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-25 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Ted Rausch, Portsmouth High School Band |

Director, and Robert Littlefield, Portsmouth High School Principal. |
