EXPRESSING SINCERE AND HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF | |
NORTH KINGSTOWN RETIRED POLICE CHIEF JAMES L. WYNNE, III | |

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness and regret that this House has learned of the passing |

of James L. Wynne, III, an individual of intelligence and integrity who devoted much of his life |
1-3 |
in service to the people of the State of Rhode Island; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, James was the son of the late James |
1-5 |
L. and Eva M. (Bullard) Wynne and the devoted husband of Linda M. (Mudge) Wynne. We |
1-6 |
grieve with his children, Keith Pierce and his wife, Wendy, Brian Wynne, Dianna Young and her |
1-7 |
husband, Peter, Denise Freyermuth and her husband, John, and Karen Dolan and her husband, |
1-8 |
Jamie. He was the brother of Dorothy Smith and the proud grandfather to twelve grandchildren. |
1-9 |
He was preceded in death by his daughter Tina Rogers; and |
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, James was a United States Navy Veteran who served during the tense days |
1-11 |
of the Cuban Missile Crisis. After completing his service in the United States Navy, Chief Wynne |
1-12 |
spent three decades in the North Kingstown Police Department, starting as a Patrolman and |
1-13 |
eventually holding the position of Chief. Chief Wynne was the first North Kingstown police |
1-14 |
officer to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. His perspective and experience |
1-15 |
were so valued that he was called back to service after his retirement to act as the interim Chief; |
1-16 |
and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, Chief Wynne contributed to his profession and the community in a number |
1-18 |
of capacities, on the Board of People's Credit Union, as a member of the Rhode Island Police |
1-19 |
Chiefs Association where he served as Treasurer for two years, as a member of the North |
1-20 |
Kingstown FOP where he served as Treasurer for twenty years, as a member of the North |
2-1 |
Kingstown Juvenile Board, and as a North Kingstown Lunch Buddy. He also volunteered for the |
2-2 |
Old Wickford Ambulance Association, Seniors Helping Others, and the North Kingstown Senior |
2-3 |
Center. A member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, he served on the vestry and was a docent at the |
2-4 |
Old Narragansett Church; and |
2-5 |
     WHEREAS, With the passing of James L. Wynne, III, Rhode Island has lost one of her |
2-6 |
finest citizens and a true gentleman, but his powerful impact will live on forever through his |
2-7 |
family, friends, and the many citizens who knew and loved him; now, therefore be it |
2-8 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-9 |
Providence Plantations hereby offers our sincere condolences on the passing of James L. Wynne, |
2-10 |
III. We furthermore extend our true appreciation for his enduring legacy of service and loyalty; |

and be it further |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-13 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Linda Wynne. |
