WHEREAS, Cox Communications has chosen eight Rhode Island senior class students to |
|

be honored with a $2,000 scholarship award in recognition and celebration of their academic |
|

excellence; and |
|
1-4 |
WHEREAS, Jon Barruetabeña, an assiduous and multi-talented student at Middletown |
|
1-5 |
High School, is one of the select few to have been chosen in 2013 to receive this prestigious |
|
1-6 |
award; and |
|
1-7 |
WHEREAS, In addition to being an honor student and member of the National Honor |
|
1-8 |
Society, Jon has also been very active in extra-curricular activities. He is the team Captain of the |
|
1-9 |
school's Varsity Soccer Team and was recognized as Academic All-Division Soccer. He was also |
|
1-10 |
a member of the 2011-2012 Rhode Island State Championship, Division III Varsity Boys' |
|
1-11 |
Lacrosse team; and |
|
1-12 |
WHEREAS, Jon is the kind of young man that we all hope our children will grow to |
|
1-13 |
become. He volunteers at the St. Joseph's Church Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry and with the |
|
1-14 |
Middletown Youth Soccer league; and |
|
1-15 |
WHEREAS, With the stamina and determination of youth, Jon finds time in his |
|
1-16 |
amazingly full agenda to enjoy soccer, surfing, traveling, hiking, and swimming in addition to his |
|
1-17 |
studies, volunteering, and sports schedule; and |
|
1-18 |
WHEREAS, We are tremendously confident that Jon will continue to rise to the top of |
|
1-19 |
his class when he attends Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the fall, where he will be pursuing an |
|
1-20 |
engineering degree; now, therefore be it |
|

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
2-2 |
Providence Plantations hereby congratulates and honors Jon Barruetabeña on being selected as |
|
2-3 |
one of this year’s recipients of the Cox Communications Scholarship Award. We encourage him |
|
2-4 |
to continue to learn and wish him the very best health and much happiness; and be it further |
|
2-5 |
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-6 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Jon Barruetabeña. |
