A N A C T

RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES - GAMBLING AND LOTTERIES

     Introduced By: Representatives Ajello, Cimini, Craven, Walsh, and Valencia

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 11-19-17 of the General Laws in Chapter 11-19 entitled "Gambling

and Lotteries" is hereby repealed.

     11-19-17. Invalidity of instruments won in bets on races or fights. -- All bonds, notes,

judgments, mortgages, deeds or other securities, as well as promises, given or made for money,

1-5

lands, houses, or other property, or article or piece of property, real, personal, or mixed, won at

1-6

any game, or by betting at any race or fight, or for the repayment of money knowingly lent for

1-7

such gaming or betting, shall be utterly void.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. The provisions of this act shall be

given both retroactive and prospective effect, and shall apply to all matters pending upon the

1-10

effective date of this act.

     This act would repeal the provisions of section 11-19-17 pertaining to the invalidity of

     This act would take effect upon passage. The provisions of this act would be given both

of this act.
