H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE MEMBERS OF THE NORTH SMITHFIELD CONCERT BAND,

JAZZ ENSEMBLE, AND CHORUS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES AT

THE NORTH AMERICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL IN NEW YORK CITY

     WHEREAS, The dedicated students in the North Smithfield High School Concert Band,

Jazz Ensemble, and Chorus contribute their time, energy, and talents to support and further their

school’s rich musical tradition; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, From April 13-15, 2013, these young members of North Smithfield High

1-5

School traveled to New York City and New Jersey to compete in the North American Music

1-6

Festival's national competition. This national venue presented an opportunity to compete against

1-7

the most gifted array of musicians in the United States, as well as Canada, and represented a

1-8

chance for the North Smithfield students to display their passion for performance and their love

1-9

of music; and

1-10

     WHEREAS, The members of the band, chorus, and jazz ensemble stepped up to compete

1-11

against twenty-five other high school music groups in venues that showed off their style, abilities,

1-12

and teamwork; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, The ride back to North Smithfield was harmonious for many reasons. The

1-14

high school concert choir and the concert band, under the direction of Mrs. Regina McAdams and

1-15

Mr. Fritz Benz, received Excellent and Superior Performance ratings. While the students as a

1-16

group gave a tremendous performance, some students also earned individual recognition as

1-17

Outstanding Jazz Soloist and Outstanding Student Accompanist on piano; and

1-18

     WHEREAS, These young people deserve our recognition and sincere appreciation for

1-19

representing Rhode Island in the best possible light; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates:
